Season 1 proved to be a big hit with not only fans, but teachers and parents, raising questions surrounding the controversy of teen suicide and bullying. The show is based off award-wining author Jay Asher's novel, Thirteen Reasons Why. The book was published in 2007 and has had over three million copies sold.
Will Clay be able to deal with the fact that he will never have a second chance with Hannah? Will Bryce face his demons after raping two high school girls? And will Jessica be able to escape the horror of knowing she was assaulted?
Clearly- there's no doubt Season 1 left fans with so many cliffhangers. How frustrating! We all listened with Clay, tape after tape. With Season 2 on its way, hopefully, our questions will be answered.

Here's a quick recap of Season 1. Liberty High School sophomore Hannah commits suicide by slitting her wrists. She spends all her energy trying to make friends and fit in with her classmates, but unfortunately struggles to do so. Before she makes the decision to end her life, she creates 13 tapes describing every student who she claims led her to kill herself. As the tapes make their way through school, we start to see how Hannah's story changes the lives of those in her circle of "friends." It all starts with the shy, introverted classmate Clay who finds the box of cassette tapes in the mail just two weeks after her tragic death.
Via its Twitter account, Netflix has also released some insight with what we can expect in Season 2.
- We'll see other's perspectives on Hannah's story.
- Jessica’s story will continue as she tries to recover and return to normal life.
- There will be a narrator, but it won’t be Hannah – No more tapes.
- The season will explore “the way we raise boys up into men and the way we treat girls in our culture – and what we could do better in both cases.”
- Bryce will hopefully get what’s coming to him.
Read the book a few years ago so I knew what was coming in #13ReasonsWhy I'm excited to see what they have planned for a second season!

Let's break it down. Here's our take:
In Season 2, we'll get to hear what each student has to say about Hannah's death. Will some deny her stories? Will others come clean? This is where we get to see how her friends react to suicide and how the smallest insult or act can affect someone's life.
Jessica was raped by her boyfriend Justin's friend Bryce, a school jock, during a party where she was highly intoxicated. Not only did she find out much later, but she learned that Justin knew all along and never said word. She's lost her drive and she's just not the peppy cheerleader she once was. We will get to see how she overcomes this time in her life. Will she go back with Justin?
Despite that there are no more tapes, will we still get to hear Hannah's voice or thoughts? Will Hannah somehow be implemented into the new season? It is safe to say we will get a clearer picture of how Hannah's classmates are feeling.
Maybe Season 2 will explore the ins and outs of suicide, depression and sexual assault. Perhaps, Season 2 will educate us on suicide- detecting the signs and prevention.
And the one on all our minds, Bryce's punishment. His attitude toward raping Hannah and Jessica seems a bit concerning. Will this be the season he finally gets what he deserves? What will need to happen for Bryce to take responsibility for his actions?
