Weekday Afternoons 3pm-7pm on New Country Kicks 99
Jeff Reynolds hails from the Hoosier State where he was born and raised in New Castle, IN and has been on the air since 2004. Jeff has done just about everything this business has to offer except for overnights (even though he’d love to take those closing time phone calls). He grew up mimicking Indianapolis radio legends such as Bob & Tom by hosting his own show and talking into a golf club that looked just enough like a microphone over songs blaring from a boom box. Jeff’s creativeness, knack for fan engagement, and dry humor make for an interesting, yet fun way to wrap up your workday and just might make you smile on your way home.
How did you get your start?
“I started playing around with cd/tape players and pretend microphones at an early age, but my first taste of radio began in a Telecommunications program my junior year of high school.”
Best part about working in radio?
“I get paid to be creative all day, every day!”
If you could do it all over again, with no stipulations/no money involved/no age limit; what would you be doing?
“I was determined to be a middle or high school history teacher, but I caught the radio bug and it stuck. Perhaps someday I’ll go back and teach radio in some sort of vocational program. I’ve always been interested in giving TV a shot someday. My interests TV wise include comedy (writing/performing), sitcoms, game show, late night host, and meteorology. I also dream of performing on stage musically, but my talent level is limited.”
What artist would we be surprised to find your playlist?
“Probably Phish…yeah, I know”
Name the artist/act you’d love to meet and why?
“Dave Matthews. I’ve been a fan ever since I attended my first show at the age of 12 and I didn’t even want to go to the concert to begin with.”
Who would be a “dream guest” (living or not) to have on your show?
“Any comedian…Jerry Seinfeld, Louis CK, Marc Maron, Bill Burr, Patton Oswalt, George Carlin
Musically: Garth Brooks, George Strait, Willie Nelson, Zac Brown, Brad Paisley, Trey Anastasio, Jerry Garcia, Dave Matthews.”
What is one truth that has held constant throughout your career?
“No two days are the same as I learn something new every day.”
If someone offered you 50 dollars to sing karaoke on your show, would you do it?
“Not the whole song. I don’t want to make your ears bleed.”
Which celebrity do you get mistaken for?
“A few come to mind, but I used to get Seth Rogen, A LOT! Here’s a new one I recently received…Ethan Suplee. You probably know him best as Randy Hickey (Earl’s Brother) from ‘My Name is Earl’. That one caught me off guard and I’m not sure how I feel about it yet.”
Where are you from?
“Born in New Castle, but mostly raised in Spiceland, Indiana (blink and you’ll miss it).”
Tell us about your favorite concert?
“I can narrow that down to a few….Dave Matthews Band, Garth Brooks, Umphrey’s McGee at Red Rocks, Vince Gill, Phish, Brad Paisley, Eric Clapton, Santana.”
What are you reading right now?
“I’ll be honest; I’m not much of a book reader right now. I’m hoping to get into audio books as I love to listen to anything and everything while doing fifty other things like walking, cleaning, or organizing. I was up until my recent move to Augusta, GA involved in a program reading children’s books to kindergartners for Real Men Read with the United Way.”
Where do you like to vacation?
“Visiting my aunt and uncle in Colorado has been my go to for the last few years. We traveled to Florida just about every year when I was growing up. I’m still ready to see it all and travel all over this great country and beyond someday.”
If you were not a radio personality what would be your dream job?
“Actor, Musician in a band, Athlete, Late Night Talk Show Host, Owner of a Brewery”
Is there someone you idolize that you wish you could be more like?
“My mom…It wasn’t always easy, but she raised three kids while dealing with a lot of other things on her plate. She’s without a doubt the hardest working person I know.”
What was your favorite subject in School?
“Lunch and recess…oh, favorite subject: History and English. Do not ask me to do math.”
What motivates you?
“My hunger for learning something new every day, drive to never become complacent, and proving people wrong when they doubt you.”
What is the strangest or worst job you’ve ever had?
“Corrections Officer: I didn’t last longer than a month and I’m certainly not cut out to keep offenders in line.”
Would you rather watch a sitcom, a reality show, a police drama, a legal drama or a medical drama? Or something else? Why?
“Um, none of the above…? I’m usually annoying other people with endless hours of Standup Comedians, documentaries, or movies on Netflix and Hulu. Conan, Louis, Always Sunny, Maron, Fargo, Seinfeld, Frazier, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and Orange is the New Black are just a few of my TV show staples. I also enjoy IU basketball, golf, and how could I ever not watch the Colts! Football is by far my favorite and I’d rather listen to the Cubs than watch them play.”
Most technological change since I started working in radio?
“Oh, social media and creating unique web content by far. This job is a lot more than just talking in between songs and it will never be that simple again with the constant change we see every single day.”
