Country music is all about the songs so the Academy of Country Music’s award category of Song of the Year is a big deal to any artist and or songwriter. In the weeks before the ACM Awards, we will be looking at each Song of The Year nominee.

Chris Stapleton’s “Broken Halos” is up for Song of the Year. He co-wrote the song with his buddy Mike Henderson several years ago.

“If you can write a song and you listen to it 10 years away from writing it and go, ‘You know, that’s a pretty good song. I like that song,’’ Chris says, “Then it’s a pretty good indication that it’s probably okay because it’s holding up. If it held up the day you wrote it and it holds up for you in a completely different segment of your life, hopefully that means it’ll help more people, and it’ll mean more to more people.”

“Broken Halos,” won the Grammy Award for Best Country Song in 2018.

The song is from his CMA and Grammy Award-winning album, From A Room: Volume 1, which was released in May of 2017.

Stapleton’s From A Room: Volume 2, is a nominee for the ACM’s Album of the Year this year.

The Academy of Country Music Awards will air live on CBS on Sunday, April7, 2019.
