The trailer for Top Gun: Maverick just dropped, and now everyone is counting down to the film’s release in 2020. The movie looks to stir up some major nostalgia, reuniting some key players of the original cast, including Tom Cruise. One big question, though, has remained unanswered–until now: will Kelly McGillis be joining the cast? In an exclusive phone interview with Entertainment Tonight, Kelly confirmed that she will NOT be joining the sequel.
Kelly doesn’t hold back when spilling the beans on her lack of participation in the movie. “I wasn’t asked,” she says. “I’m old and I’m fat, and I look age-appropriate for what my age is, and that is not what that whole scene is about. ” She goes on to say that since getting sober, she re-assessed her life and wanted to focus on raising her daughters, instead of letting what she did for a living to define her as a person.
Congratulations to Kelly for defying Hollywood’s pressure to never age, and even more importantly, getting sober! You can hear her full conversation here: https://www.etonline.com/kelly-mcgillis-says-she-wasnt-asked-to-be-part-of-top-gun-sequel-exclusive-129341
