Yesterday, Dan + Shay got three CMA nominations. The duo are up for Best Duo, Best Single (“Speechless”) and Album of the Year categories.
In addition, Dan Smyers is nominated for Song of the Year as a co-writer alongside Nicolle Galyon and Jordan Reynolds on “Tequila” for the second year joining an elite class of twice-nominated songs that includes “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” “Always On My Mind” and “On The Other Hand.”
Dan said, “This album will always hold extra special meaning to us. It’s amazing to have ‘Speechless,’ a song that is so important to us both, recognized in the Single of the Year category. And for ‘Tequila,’ which kicked off this crazy ride, to be nominated again for Song – it’s just incredible.”
They posted to Instagram, "Woke up to some incredible news this morning! nominated for album of the year, vocal duo of the year, single of the year, and song of the year at the @cma awards! thanks to everyone who voted for us, we’re so grateful to be recognized by the country music community! also, if you’ve made it this far in the caption, you’re probably a true fan, so we can be honest."
They continued, "We didn’t “wake up” to the news of nominations. award show announcements give us (at least me, @dansmyers) a lot of anxiety, so it’s difficult to actually sleep the night before. so many people work so hard to make the music happen, and to have it all critiqued on one specific night, in one specific moment, is an overwhelming amount of pressure. it’s been a really great year, and we’re trying to stress less about these things, and just appreciate the fact that we’re doing what we love for people who are willing to listen. thanks for continuing to support us on this journey, through the highs and lows. we’re truly living a dream because of you."
