With Season 17 of The Voice premiering next Monday (9/23) on NBC, Brett Young has been reflecting on his experience on the show. “I auditioned for The Voice three times and never got the callback,” he says.

Brett explained, “I got an email saying, you know, ‘We reviewed your tapes, and this season was kind of light, in terms of talent, and you can skip the audition process and move straight to the blinds, to TV. We would love for you to come be a part of the show.’ I went and did the psych evaluation and everything in L.A. It was like less than a week before I left that I had my first meeting with Big Machine.”

So even though he ultimately did not end up on The Voice, because other doors opened for him in Nashville, Brett says, “I would have done it, absolutely, and would have been so grateful for the opportunity.”

Last week, Young released The Acoustic Sessions EP. He plays a sold-out show at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles on Thursday (9/19).

He posted recently to Instagram, "T I C K E T // T O // L A // A C O U S T I C Acoustic session out now!"
