We recently spoke to Luke Combs about his latest single "Even Though I'm Leaving," which addresses the loss of a parent or someone close to you.

He told us, "Most of the time when I see somebody gushing about a song that they wrote, I’m kind of like the roll-my-eyes guy. But I will tell you that’s probably the one instance where I was genuinely moved by something that I hadn’t even experienced. I’m lucky enough to still have both of my parents, and I can’t imagine having to sing that song when that time comes, hopefully it’s not for 20 years."

Combs continues, "I can’t imagine, because I was in tears singing the work tape of that song when we wrote it. I’m totally not the guy that’s like, 'Oh it was so emotional.' I don’t know what about it hit me so hard, because like I said I haven’t had that experience of losing a parent, but something about that day was definitely really special. It was one of the few times where I’ve really been moved by my own song. I don’t want to be that guy that’s like, 'Oh man, my song’s so good,' you know? Cause I’m totally not that guy. But yeah, that was an emotional day, for sure."

The song currently sits in the top five on the country charts heading for the top.
