Back in November, Garth Brooks won the CMA Entertainer of the Year award, but many felt that Eric Church should have received the honor (he's been nominated for the award three times). At CRS on Thursday (2/20) Church addressed this point.

He said during a panel discussion, "It was probably painful for the people around me more than it was me. It’s a trophy, that’s what it is, but not to the people that push those carts. Not to the fans."

Church added, “That was who I hurt for.”

Days after the 2019 CMAs, Eric played a show in Washington D.C., where he tweaked the lyrics to Waylon Jennings' "Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way" to "I don't think Garth done it this way."

However when he spoke at CRS, it was clear he wasn't tense about the subject saying, “It’s a trophy. I’m still going to go play the same show. The minute you start making decisions to try to win trophies or try to move songs two spots higher on the chart, that becomes detrimental to your overall vision. It’s not about those things."

Nancy Brooks has been working in the country music industry for almost 30 years. She has interviewed pretty much any country star you can think of. In the late 1990s, she started working with Dolly Parton. And yes, Nancy reports that Parton is as sweet as you would think. She loves her life in country music and has been backstage at every CMA Awards show since the late 1990s. Many of her stories are from her one-on-one interviews. She was there at the beginning of the incredible careers of many music superstars today, including Taylor Swift, Shania Twain, and Blake Shelton, and has interviewed them multiple times throughout the years.
