As we reported earlier this week, Garth Brooks will be honored with the Icon Award at the this year’s Billboard Music Awards.

Garth said, “So proud to go and represent country music with an award that they don’t give to country music much."

He added, “Be proud to be country. That’s the thing. Country music is treated a lot like the distant cousin sometimes. But make no mistake – we have the best audience…we have the most loyal audience…and I am speaking from experience – we have the largest audience on the planet. These records that are being set? Take Garth Brooks’ name off of it. Put ‘country music’ in it…country music’s gonna virtually have every record that can be out there.”

The 2020 Billboard Music Awards will be held April 29 in Las Vegas (airing live on NBC); Garth will be on-hand not only to accept the Icon Award, but he’ll also perform.

Nancy Brooks has been working in the country music industry for almost 30 years. She has interviewed pretty much any country star you can think of. In the late 1990s, she started working with Dolly Parton. And yes, Nancy reports that Parton is as sweet as you would think. She loves her life in country music and has been backstage at every CMA Awards show since the late 1990s. Many of her stories are from her one-on-one interviews. She was there at the beginning of the incredible careers of many music superstars today, including Taylor Swift, Shania Twain, and Blake Shelton, and has interviewed them multiple times throughout the years.
