Keith Urban Explains How The ACM Awards Will Be Live From Nashville During Pandemic
As performers get announced for the ACM Awards today (9/2), which will air live from Nashville from three iconic venues, Keith Urban talked to us about how the awards show, which he is hosting, will go down during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Keith told us, “It’s certainly virtual. I’m going to be literally in the Grand Ole Opry House hosting. I’m sure there’ll be no people in the audience. Probably the same feeling from when I performed at the Grand Ole Opry recently with Kelsea (Ballerini) and Morgan (Evans). I know we’re going to have some performances in other venues, too. We’re gonna have someone playing at Ryman Auditorium, we’re gonna be utilizing the Bluebird Cafe, so there’s a way to have people involved that don’t all have to be in one venue. And I think that’s super creative of the ACMs to do that.”
Urban is quite happy that despite all the challenges that 2020 has brought to us, the ACMs pushed forward. He told us, “I’m grateful that they’re doing it, because obviously we’re all looking at, ‘Well, OK. It’s gonna be in Vegas with a lot of people. Nope. It’s not going to have any people, but it’s gonna be in Vegas. Okay. No, not going to be in Vegas. Gonna be in Nashville. Okay. It’s gonna be in Nashville. But no people.’ And you could see every step of the way, it would have been easy to just say, ‘Well, let’s just cancel till next year.'”
He adds, “I really love them for going ahead and doing it too, because those people that win that stuff this year, that could be their year.”
The ACM Awards will live on September 16, 2020 from various venues in Nashville.
