Kane Brown has come a long way from his days of trying to get noticed by posting cover songs on YouTube, but do you remember when he tried to break into the music industry through reality television?

He first auditioned for American Idol, but didn’t make the cut. Next, Kane tried out for the X Factor, and DID get chosen – but left the show after they wanted to make him part of a boy band!

I’m such a fan of Kane, but I didn’t know that he had given up a chance to compete on X Factor. That was a brave move! Several stars have launched their careers by starting out in girl groups & boy bands on similar shows (pop stars Camilla Cabello & Harry Styles were both in groups before achieving success as solo artists.)

It would have been easy for Kane to choose instant fame by compromising his goals, but he didn’t – and it paid off! Kane’s path to success may have taken him a little longer by walking away from X-Factor, but it allowed him to do his music, his way.

There’s a lesson in Kane’s story: You can never go wrong by staying true to yourself. It may not be easy, but it’ll always be worth it.
