Sergio Garcia Positive for COVID-19, Withdraws from Masters
The 2017 Masters champion, Sergio Garcia, will miss this year’s tournament at Augusta National Golf Club after a positive COVID-19 test, the golfer said in a Tweet.
“After 21 years of not missing a Major Championship, I will sadly miss The Masters this week,” Garcia said. “The important thing is that my family and I are feeling good. We’ll come back stronger and give the green jacket a go next April.”
Garcia, who won the tournament in 2017, said he started to feel ill Saturday night after playing in the Houston Open. “The symptoms stayed with me on Sunday morning so I decided to get tested for COVID-19 and so did my wife Angela. Thankfully she tested negative, but I didn’t.”
