This was one of the performances that I was most looking forward to at last night’s CMA Awards! I was so bummed to hear that Lee Brice had tested positive for COVID and wouldn’t be able to take the stage with Carly Pearce (especially after “I Hope You’re Happy Now” won the CMA award for Musical Event of the Year.) Still, I was certain that Charles Kelley would do justice to the duet.
It did not disappoint! Just before the show, we learned that Lady A would not be performing or attending the CMAs, because a member of their band had also tested positive. “Luckily, Charles had already taped his performance with Carly Pearce,” the band said in an Instagram post.
Here’s Charles & Carly’s version of “I Hope You’re Happy Now.”
