In a time when politics are easily the most polarizing issue in our country, Maren Morris isn’t going to “shut up and sing.”
After last week’s rally took a violent turn when a group of protesters entered the Capitol building, Maren and fellow country artist Mickey Guyton exchanged a series of tweets.
“I am completely disgusted,” Guyton tweeted. “Are these boys still backing the blue? Asking for a friend.” In her reply, Maren called out “some singers’ wives” for supporting President Donald Trump.
“And how do some singer’s wives conveniently not know the difference between marching for racial injustice and Nazis breaching our Capitol because their guy didn’t win?” Mickey responded, “I know exactly who you’re talking about,” with a GIF of Megan Thee Stallion.
Maren, who endorsed Biden prior to the November election, seems to be referring to Jason Aldean’s wife, Brittany, and Brian Kelley’s (Florida Georgia Line) wife, Brittney. Both Aldean and Kelley have been vocal on social media about their support of President Trump (Brian Kelley has also shared in an Instagram comment that he did not vote for former Vice President Joe Biden; Jason has also shared Instastories that hint to his support of the President and questioning the legitimacy of the election results.)
Both Aldean and Kelley have denounced all violence, including that which occurred at the Capitol. However, Brittany A. has said that she will continue to voice her conservative opinions. “It is disgusting to me that freedom of speech applies to everyone except Republicans,” she said in an Instastory after the election.
