Have You Heard This Legend About Edgefield, South Carolina?
I’ve been in Augusta for five years now. I still don’t seem to know my way around, most of the time. And I don’t know all of the fun stories about the little towns, communities and cities around here.
I actually live across the river in South Carolina. And technically live in Edgefield County. So… I just randomly searched YouTube today for Edgefield County, SC. And something immediately caught my eye!
First of all… I love true crime! Give me any podcast, TV show or movie about crime, and I’m set. I always joke that if I wasn’t in radio, I would probably be an investigator. For some reason, I am fascinated by the stories, the clues and the psychology behind why people do what they do.
Secondly, I love history. I love to think about how people lived years ago, and see cool artifacts. Since I’ve been in the CSRA, I’ve visited a few places featuring the history of the area. But there’s still SO much I haven’t dug into.
Back to my original reason for posting today. I did the search on YouTube and came across: “The Devil in Petticoats – The Story of Edgefield’s Black Widow, Becky Cotton.” Do you know this story?!
It’s a wild story from back in the late 18th century. And now… I feel like after watching this, I need to learn more about these interesting legends, stories and history of the area.

Even though I get easily scared… I still love good stories about “haunted places” like this one about the Most Haunted Places in Augusta.
