According to On This Day In Country Music, On July 21, 2013, The band Rascal Flatts was coming under fire for Joe Don Rooney’s Butt. In the video for “I Melt” all 3 members of the band have a love interest in the music video but it’s Joe Don and his love interest that got the most attention. Actress Christina Auria was shown nude in the shower and from the side.
But, no pun intended, it was Joe Don and his bare derriere that had everyone talking. It was the first video on CMT to ever show nudity.
Conservative groups all across the country called for a boycott of CMT and Great American Country for playing the video and demanded them to stop playing the video. Rascal Flatts had an idea to fix this problem. They went back in and made an edit of the one that showed Joe Don’s derriere and also kept the original video as well!
