100 Years of Power

An hour or so away from Augusta in Hampton and Colleton counties, it seems a Hollywood movie is being made, but unfortunately, it’s real life. The Murdaugh Murders. I’ve been keeping up with it and it gets crazier by the week.

The Murdaugh family has held power in the legal system in Hampton County for over 100 years and now it seems to have come to an end. Alex Murdaugh is in jail after being charged with murdering his wife and son and with countless other charges of faces murder charges

The tragic circumstances swirling around a lawyer and his family in South Carolina became only more perplexing over time, leading to several arrests, stunning twists, and intricate theories arising from those following the case. At its center is the Murdaugh family, whose members have served in powerful legal positions in the southern part of the state going back 100 years.

The Call

It all began on the night of June 7, 2021, when Alex Murdaugh, a lawyer whose father, grandfather, and great-grandfather all served as the top prosecutor across a wide area of the state, called 911 to report that his wife and one of their two sons had been shot to death. What to know

Former South Carolina lawyer, Alex Murdaugh was indicted for murder on Thursday, however, he still currently faces dozens of other possible charges.

Murder Charges

In an announcement, the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office said that Murdaugh was indicted on “two counts of murder and two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime in the deaths of his wife Maggie and his son Paul. They were killed on June 7, 2021, at the family’s property in Colleton County.”

The indictment comes several months after Murdaugh was accused of several other crimes which led to the indefinite suspension of his law license. More about the  Murdaugh murders.
