Today in Country Music History features a song that was sent to Country Radio and little did anyone know how big this song would be    On July 29, 1996,  according to Roland and Note, Capitol Records Nashville released “Strawberry Wine By Deana Carter.  “Strawberry Wine” became Deana’s first number one song on the US Billboard Hot Country Singles and Tracks Chart and even went number one on the Canadian RPM Country Tracks!

The song was also a big ol’ winner at the awards level also.  Song Of The Year from the CMA in 1998, Song Of the Year by The Nashville Songwriters Association, and The Nashville Music Awards.  The same year, “Strawberry Wine” was nominated for  A Grammy for Best Country Song and The ACM’s Best Country Song and Country Music Radio Awards For Song Of The Year!

Now let’s now forget the “CD” that “Strawberry Wine” came from. “Did I Shave My Legs For This”  The success of “Strawberry Wine’  helped sell to date, 5 Million copies of the CD.  “Did I Shave My Legs For This” also featured We Danced Anyway and How Do I Get There From Here, both going Number 1!

“Strawberry Wine” Is a song that has stood the test of time and you can still hear it on Kicks 99 today.
