Darius Rucker is a massive football lover and has been since he was a kid. But according to a recent tweet, he isn’t a jersey-wearing guy. Well, one fan on Twitter proved him wrong.

Darius responded to a fan’s tweet that asked him, “I wonder what jerseys @dariusrucker will be sporting this season. #FinsUp.” Rucker said, “I don’t do jerseys.” Then in another tweet, the fan posted a photo of Darius from 2009 wearing a Miami Dolphins Jersey. The fan wrote, “The internet never forgets!” Rucker responded to that tweet, saying, “Hahaahhahhhhahh. U got me. Hahhhhahhahhahhhahh.”

During an interview years ago, he told me that his favorite seasons were “football season” and “waiting for football season.” He said at the time, “Ever since I was five years old, I’ve loved football, and I love how physical it is. I love the chess match of the game. I love the speed of the game. I love college football, but for me watching pro football is better because the speed is so much more.”

Even when Darius is on the road playing country music for fans, he is never too far from football. In 2016, he told me in an interview that he is quite the pro at football video games, “I don’t want to brag, but you know my nickname out there is OG, I’m the Old Gangster (laughs) of Madden out there. But I’m picked to win, but everybody’s gotten pretty good, but those cats are out there playing Call of Duty and hockey and FIFA and all that stuff and basketball…Yeah, we play a lot of stuff out there.”

In 2021, Rucker teamed up with the NFL and Fanatics for the NFL x Darius Rucker Collection By Fantatics. Per the Fanatics website, “This collection includes vintage and and rugged pieces for the classic fan.” The collection includes tops, bottoms and outerwear, each available with any NFL team logo.
