Dolly Parton celebrated Queen Elizabeth II’s memory when she heard the news of the Queen's passing on Thursday (9/8). Parton took to her Instagram to post a photo of herself meeting the monarch in the late 1970s.

She wrote along with the image, “I had the honor of meeting and performing for Queen Elizabeth on my trip to London in 1977. She carried herself with strength and grace her entire life. May she rest in Peace. My thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time. Love, Dolly.”

In the photo Parton shared, she is smiling as the Queen looks her way. Also meeting the Queen at the time and in the photo Dolly shared are actor David Soul (TV’s Starsky and Hutch) among other entertainers.

Several fans responded to Partron’s post, including one who wrote, “Dolly, you’re the real Queen! We love you<3.” Another die-hard quipped, “Wow, I can’t believe the Queen got to meet THE Dolly Parton.”

Dolly told me in an interview a few years ago of her time with The Queen , “That was a great moment I thought, it’s like I’m not a star worshiper, but as a kid, I was always intrigued by the Kings and Queens, and I always loved the magazines and the books and their costumes and all.”

She added, “Of course, they weren’t like the old Kings and Queen of the old stories, but it still had that romantic feeling to me to think, ‘That’s the Queen of England.'”

Queen Elizabeth II died peacefully, as the Royal Family confirmed on Twitter on Thursday (9/8). They tweeted,  “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.” The Queen’s funeral will take place on Monday September 19, according to CNN.
