‘Ghostbusters’ was on our movie playlist this week as we get closer to Halloween and it sparked a memory of a delicious ‘Ghostbusters’ inspired drink from the ’80s: Ecto Cooler.

The original ‘Ghostbusters’ film was released in 1984, followed by ‘Ghostbusters 2’ in 1989. Then a reboot of the film dropped in 2016, and ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ in 2021.

As you can imagine, a lot of promotional items came from the film franchise. While this cereal was one of my favorite ‘Ghostbusters’ inspired treats, Ecto Cooler was an absolute favorite of mine. So  I wanted my daughter Lexie to try it and see what she thought. So we decided to recreate it as best as we possibly could.

Ecto Cooler was first introduced after ‘Ghostbusters 2’ in 1989. It was described as "an orange-tangerine (noted as citrus on the previous version) flavored, green-colored drink by Hi-C."

Now, there were comparisons online between ‘Juicy Juice Orange Tangerine’ flavored juice and Ecto Cooler. But in my opinion and in this one, it’s just not sweet enough.

So I tried this version, and it was pretty spot on. But I didn’t have any green food coloring on hand, so the ‘green’ part is missing, but the flavor is there! Three parts Tampico, and one part Minute Maid Lemonade, and you’ve got yourself a very close replica to Ecto Cooler.
