Am I the only one who feels weird about Cracker Barrel selling alcohol? I don't think southern cooking goes with beer or wine. Am I wrong? Cracker Barrel: Meatloaf And Beer?

Country fried steak and a Bud Light? Old Timers Breakfast with a glass of wine? It's just not American. Let's keep the alcohol in the bars and restaurants that serve bar food: wings, fried pickles, cheese fries, and sliders.

I grew up in the restaurant business, and mom and dad had some great recipes on their menu, and none of them involved alcohol, except for the Schiltz that dad had in the kitchen.

I love a cold beer as well as anyone, but when I go to Cracker Barrel and order a plate of fried stuff and a plate of carbs with biscuits and gravy and mashed potatoes and gravy and a side of gravy, I want sweet tea. Not a Strawberry Mimosa.

Also, I see that they now offer plant-based sausage. Plant-based. What?

What's next? Kale salad and cauliflower buffalo wings? 75" TV's throughout the restaurant replacing the pictures of people from the early 1900s that never smile?

I think Cracker Barrel was just fine before all of these changes. We'll see how it goes for them, but I have a friend whose daughter works for Cracker Barrel, and she said they don't sell much alcohol.

I'll still go there because their food is good, but next time, you may find me on the front porch in one of the rocking chairs slamming down a Bud Light and eating a pecan log roll from their gift shop.

Cheers!
