A Hidden Gem In Aiken County
Y’all know I love getting lost on backroads, and this weekend, I found myself in Vaucluse, SC, a hidden gem in Aiken County. I’m sure I’ve been in the area, but I’ve never seen the tiny post office. It is such a cool area on the water.
I did a little research and found out this from the SC Picture Project.
This post office, located in the unincorporated Aiken County community of Vaucluse (pronounced “VOH • cloos”), was established in 1904 to serve employees of the Vaucluse Mill. The former textile mill (comprised of brick and shown in the background) began production in 1830.
This hidden gem in Aiken County is the oldest mill village in the state. I can only imagine what this village was like in 1904.
