New Beer From Air Conditioning Condensation
On the show this morning, Dub told me about a new beer made from air conditioning condensation. I have to be honest, that just sounds dirty– literally! Of course, there are plenty of craft breweries that have experimented with a variety of things to set themselves apart from others. But usually, that’s mostly with the flavors they add.
But, someone decided they should try using the condensation from the air conditioning units at the San Diego International Airport.
The Company Behind The New Beer
The company behind the new beer made from air conditioning condensation is San Diego’s East Village Brewing Company. They worked with the airport to put the precious “water’ to use. Water from all of the air conditioning units was collected, then purified it. After that, the water is then used as the base for two new beers.
The two beers created are a West Coast-IPA called “Hoppy Travels,” and a German-style pilsner called “Preflight Pils.” The IPA has a grapefruit and guava flavor. The pilsner has notes of lemon zest, with a “bready” flavor.
The beers were announced a few weeks ago, and are available at the San Diego International Airport now. Reviews of the beers have actually been positive. Hoppy Travels has a 3.9 out of 5 on the beer app called Untappd, and Preflight has a 3.8.
