Chris Stapleton Reacts To Coach’s Tears During National Anthem
Chris Stapleton’s rendition of the National Anthem at Sunday’s (2/12) Super Bowl LVII was incredibly moving. So much so that Eagles’ Coach Nick Sirianni was seen with tears streaming down his face.
ET caught up with Chris right after his moving performance. Stapleton, always a man of few words, said, “Man, it felt great. It really did.” He added, “The energy was good, and the crowd was hyped up for the game, so that kind of gets you ready to go.”
Chris admitted that he did not see the viral moment of Coach Sirianni in tears. Stapleton said, “I don’t know if I can watch it, man. I try not to watch myself back too much.”
Sirianni himself talked about that tearful moment at the press conference after the game. He said, “I’ve dreamed about this since I’ve been two years old. It’s just emotional because there’s a lot of work, not just by myself, but a lot of people. Starting with my wife and my kids, my brothers, my dad, and just so many people… It’s just emotional in that moment knowing where we were.”

As we reported right on Sunday, Stapleton did not disappoint with his version of the National Anthem before Super Bowl LVII at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, near Phoenix. Wearing all black and sunglasses, without his trademark hat, Chris played guitar as he sang. During his performance, the camera shot went to many of both teams’ players, some of whom were brought to tears. Oscar-winning actor Troy Kotsur signed the performance for the camera for the hearing impaired.
This was Chris’ first time performing the National Anthem at a Super Bowl, but not a first for country music as just last year (2022), Mickey Guyton sang the National Anthem. In years past, Luke Byan sang it. Eric Church played guitar and sang the National Anthem along with Jazmine Sullivan in 2021. Carrie Underwood also sang the National Anthem at the Super Bowl in 2010.
