By now, I think you all know that I love to read. While I don't always have the time to read as much as I'd like, I try to get in as much as I can. Over the weekend, I had some time to finish up book number 13 for the year, Daisy Jones & The Six. I will admit, this one was really hard to get through for me. It wasn't badly written and had a decent storyline. But for some reason, I just wasn't really into it. If you like rock and roll, and the 70s era, then you might enjoy it. I had to remind myself that it was not a real-life story. It was written almost like a documentary/interview. But as I finished that one up, I immediately started my 14th book of the year: The Silent Patient.
Can't Put This One Down
Now this one has definitely grabbed my attention! I have had a hard time putting it down. I started the book on Saturday night, and read a good bit yesterday while I was in the truck. Then I grabbed it to read a bit more before I fell asleep last night. I'm already about 3/4ths of the way through the book I think! I guess thrillers are definitely one of my favorite genres.
GoodReads describes it like this: "The Silent Patient is a shocking psychological thriller of a woman’s act of violence against her husband—and of the therapist obsessed with uncovering her motive."
A Little About 'The Silent Patient'
The Silent Patient is written by Alex Michaelides, and this is actually his first novel! The story is about a woman who is a painter, and her husband is a photographer. The couple seems to have a great life... but the husband winds up shot in the face five times. The wife is charged with the crime. But she refuses to speak. She winds up in a psych hospital. The story is being told by a psychotherapist, Theo Faber.
Theo is very interested in the woman's story and wants to work with her. He winds up getting a job at the hospital and starts getting some interaction with her.
I can't say much more about it, without ruining the story. But also, I haven't quite finished the book yet! I will say, as someone who has always been interested in psychology, this story is fascinating! It's very interesting to see Theo's approach to trying to break through to the woman, while also dealing with his own issues.
Even though I'm not done with the book... this is one I highly recommend! It's well-written and keeps you wanting more.
