South Carolina's Airport Café - Trenton, SC

You wouldn't expect this. Not much here except a small old convenience store, a community ballfield, an airport, and a restaurant. Yep, a restaurant with a dirt parking lot is right in the middle of nowhere.  It's South Carolina's Airport Café in Trenton.

The Airport Grill

The Airport Grill is nothing fancy. Just an unassuming old white building. Inside is nothing like you'll see in "the city." It's just the necessities. About ten or so tables, which by the way, when I was there, were all full.  It's obvious to me that some people have found out about this restaurant next to the small airport where people have hangers for their planes next to their houses instead of a simple garage. It's a fly-in community.

Gravy and Bologna

At South Carolina's Airport Café in Trenton, the menu is old school, like gravy biscuits (you had me at gravy). Under "protein" on the breakfast menu are sausage, bacon, and bologna. Bologna. That's not one you see on many menus anymore. That's just another reason why I love this place. Also, grilled ham, country ham (goes well with gravy), and pork chops.   I ordered two eggs scrambled with crispy bacon, which no one ever gets the bacon right when I order it, but this place nailed it. Perfect.

They have pancakes, breakfast sanwiches (they dropped the D, another plus!), and a pig in the blanket, which is simply a grilled sausage link wrapped in a slice of white bread. I love the simplicity.

I'm Just Sittin' Out Here Watching Airplanes

The lunch menu includes hamburgers and hot dogs, which I'll try soon. But my coworker, Chris O'Kelley, says the burgers are great. They also have corndogs. Next time, I may order a few corndogs, sit on my tailgate in the parking lot, and watch the airplanes take off.

Cops and Firetrucks

The Airport Grill is a throwback place to eat great food with friendly people. Also, seeing a firetruck and three South Carolina Highway patrol cars in the busy parking lot instantly endorsed the Airport Grill's food for me.

The Airport Grill is located at 1301 Bettis Academy Rd, Trenton, SC.
