I love traveling to the Asheville area. There is so much to do, and I always have a great time.  The last trip I took was to the Biltmore House, which can take a day or two to see. Also, I stopped in at Sierra Nevada Brewing Company just outside of Asheville in Mills River, NC. Day Trip From Augusta: Asheville, NC – 3hr 19m.

45 Bathrooms

First, the Biltmore House. I’ve been a few times, and it never disappoints. The tour of the house that George Vanderbilt built is first on my list. The house took six years to finish and finally was move-in ready in 1895. It was and is America’s largest home. One hundred seventy-five thousand square feet, 35 bedrooms, 45 bathrooms, and 65 fireplaces….(I would have hated to have been the guy in charge of cutting the firewood).

Central Park

Day Trip From Augusta: Asheville, NC – 3hr 19m. It really is unbelievable to think that this was someone’s residence. The grounds were designed by  Frederick Law Olmsted, the same guy who designed New York City’s Central Park.

Beer

Sierra Nevada Brewing Company is another must-stop when you’re in the area. This place in Mills River is huge and is a craft beer lovers’ paradise. Everything here is impressive, from the entrance with the long driveway to the beer, the food, and the fun. You can tour the brewery and check out the taproom and gift shop. There’s even an amphitheater at this place.

Asheville and the surrounding area are beautiful places to visit and close enough for a day trip from the Augusta area. Let me know if you go. I would love to hear what you think about Asheville and the Biltmore.
