Sunglasses On The Dash – Don’t Do It

I am guilty of this... leaving my sunglasses on the dash of my Jeep.  If I don't put them there, chances are I'll leave them in the house! But, apparently, it's dangerous to have your sunglasses on the dash. This is especially true in the hot summer months, which is when I find myself using sunglasses the most!

Honestly, I never would have thought of this, but it just happened recently in the U.K.  A fire department in England posted this photo:

Your sunglasses can start a fire!  Just like a magnifying glass, the lenses of your sunglasses can heat up a point in your vehicle and cause a fire.

As you can see from the photo, the entire dash was melted, along with damage to the steering wheel and the windshield!

To prevent this from happening, it's best to keep your sunglasses off the dash, along with other reflective objects (even water bottles). And knowing just how hot our vehicles get here in the South during the Summer, you know it's better safe than sorry!
