Backroad Food Finds: Dave’s Grill and Grocery – Couchton, South Carolina
I didn’t even know there was a Couchton, South Carolina, but I’m glad I found out about it, because it’s the home of Dave’s Grill and Grocery. Just outside of Aiken – in Aiken County – I found a great gas station and convenience store that happens to serve some of the best food you’ll find.
A Butcher Shop, Too
When I arrived, a huge grill was out front smoking bar-b-que, beef brisket, pork chops, and even onion sausage, ribs, and more. Inside, you find a convenience store that carries regular stuff like chips, canned goods, soft drinks, etc. Then, you see the small counter with people lining up to order some of the best food you’ll find anywhere. There is also a butcher shop in Dave’s for your backyard cookouts.
Community Gathering Place
I had the cheeseburger with fries, and it was great. May take their food to-go or sit in the parking lot and eat. I opted to sit at one of 5 or 6 tables inside, and I enjoyed the atmosphere. As always, in small communities, people know each other, and it seems that Dave’s is not only a great place for food and groceries but also a community gathering place for the locals.
