Fourteen Acres Of Paradise In This Small South Carolina Town
You can thank Oliver and Hope Iselin for this beautiful place in Aiken, S.C. They purchased this property in 1897 for $1,650. Fourteen Acres Of Paradise In This Small South Carolina Town was purchased for less than $2000. But they made it what it is today, and it’s beautiful. It is Hopelands Gardens.
New York And Aiken
The Iselin’s primary residence was in New York, and Hopelands was their winter residence. Mr. Iselin was a banker and one of the best yachtsman in the United States. His wife, Hope, was a yachtswoman and a thoroughbred horse owner.
Hopelands Gardens is open to the public, and there is no charge for admission, and parking is free, too. Fourteen Acres Of Paradise In This Small South Carolina Town.
100 Years Old
There are 100-year-old live oaks throughout the gardens, fountains, a reflection pool, and so much more to see along the brick trails.
A Dollhouse And Christmas
Also on the grounds is the Dollhouse, which was the Iselin’s daughter’s playhouse which was ordered from the Sears and Roebuck catalog in the early 1900s and was put together on site. I’m told Christmas is a really special time at Hopelands as it is lit up for the holidays with thousands of lights.
I hope you can visit soon and enjoy this special place!
