I ran across a list recently that was titled "10 Things That Gen Z Will Never Know About." Most of the things mentioned are things I remember but very vaguely because it was becoming no longer. What I want to point out on the list was #5. This is what it said:
5. VHSs and VCRs
Watching movies used to require a VHS and a VCR, you couldn’t just log into Netflix on your Smart TV.
And forget about the “skip intro”, “play from the beginning”, or “15-second fast-forward”. VHS tapes had to be rewound by hand and if you wanted to jump forward a scene, you had to make your best guess at when the current one ended and a new one began.
I can definitely agree with this one, even being born in 1998 (the older generation of Gen Z) I don't remember much about VCR tapes, but I do know my mom had ( and still has) me an awesome collection of Walt Disney movies of VHS tapes.
Another VHS tape I vaguely remember is the Good Burger tape.
Well today, June 7, has been recognized as National VCR Day and while I can't reminisce much or recall on those nostalgic memories of having to rewind the tape by hand, I can let you in on how to dispose of or recycle VCR players that you still may have around.
Most city's have a proper guidelines of how to dispose your VCR.
Augusta:
Augusta-Richmond County Landfill

North Augusta:
Residential Recycling Drop-Off Center 67 Claypit Road North Augusta, SC 29841
In North Augusta, did you know residents are required to recycle electronics? In July 2011 South Carolina Legislation passed a law making it illegal for residents to place or discard electronics into a solid waste stream.
The Biggest Summer Movies Of All Time
What are the biggest summer movies of all time? Which ones made the most money? We've officially hit the 2023 summer movie season. Memorial Day is pretty much the unofficial official kick off of the season and a lot of big movies just dropped this past weekend. "Fast X", "The Little Mermaid", "Guardians Of The Galaxy 3", and a bunch more are already out.
Every year there seems to be a bunch of big movies that come out around Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day. I guess because people are off work and are more apt to go see a movie. The folks over at MentalFloss.com have ranked the summer movies that have made the most money ever.
They went back to the summer of 1975 when "Jaws" made $260 million. That made it the first true summer blockbuster. Here are a few other iconic movies that were considered huge summer movies.
-"Grease" made $190 million in 1978
-"E.T. the Extra Terrestrial" made $435.1 million in 1982
-"Star Wars: Return of the Jedi" made $309.3 million in 1983
I can say that I have seen most of the movies on this list, and I'm anxious to see what makes the list for 2023. If you'd like to check out the full list from MentalFloss.com, just click here
