I lived in Surfside Beach, SC, a while back and loved the area. I usually try to get back at least every few years—one of my favorite places near Surfside is Murrells Inlet. South Carolina's Laid Back Fishing Village makes for a great weekend getaway.

The MarshWalk

Murrells Inlet is known as the "seafood capital of South Carolina," the village has some great restaurants. Also, you can get closer to the water by walking on the MarshWalk, or waterfront dining, live music, and plenty of places to enjoy a cold beverage. The motto of the MarshWalk is "Where the Fun, the View, and the Music is Always Free." South Carolina's Laid Back Fishing Village.

One fun way to spend the day is to head out for a full day of deep-sea fishing. If you decide to go, here are Tripadvisor's top fishing charters in Murrells Inlet. Also nearby is Pawley's Island and  Myrtle Beach if you want to explore a bit. Locals also love the July 4th boat parade, which started in 1983 in Murrells Inlet. It gets underway at 6 pm and always draws a big crowd, so if you go, get there early.

The Pier

The closest beach to Murrells Inlet is Garden City, and it's less than ten minutes away. If the kids get bored, you can take the short trip to Garden City, where there's a great arcade. Also, I love the Garden City Pier, which has live music and karaoke daily. Let me know if you go...and have fun!

In case you missed it: Another great place to visit.
