These Beaches Are The Best In The South
Who doesn’t love a beach trip? It’s always good to get away and recharge; Here are some of my favorite beaches in the South.
Old Florida Beach Town
We’ll start in Florida, where I lived for three years. I was close to some great beaches, as I lived in St Pete. My favorite place to go was Pass-a-Grille Beach. It’s a small area, an old Florida-type beach with fishing piers, good restaurants, a few bars, and a great beach. The Paradise Grill is oceanfront and an excellent place for breakfast and lunch. Also, the plaza area next to it has an art market each weekend.
The Pink Palace
As you head out of Pass-a-Grille, you’ll see the historic Don Cesar Hotel on St. Pete Beach. They call it the Pink Palace, which has been open since 1928.
Best Beach In The South
I also love Indian Rocks Beach, which is in the same area. The house I rented there had a swing underneath in the open garage, and it was a great place to enjoy a cool beverage right on the beach. Clearwater Beach was another one of my favorites when I lived there. This year, it was chosen by USA Today as the Best Beach in the South.
A Folly Good Time
Next is South Carolina and Folly Beach, just outside of Charleston. This beach is ranked 5th in the South by USA Today. I’ve been going to Folly for years and love this place. Very laid back with an old-school feel. The Lost Dog Cafe is great for breakfast and lunch, and the Crab Shack is another of my favorites. If you want a cold beer or cocktail, I always go to the Tides Beach Bar at the Tides Hotel. It’s oceanfront and the best spot on Folly as far as I’m concerned. Think ocean breeze and friendly staff!
