This September, my favorite beach town celebrates 50 years of coastal fun! September 22 thru October 1st, Folly Beach is celebrating big time! This South Carolina Beach Town Celebrates 50 Years. I've been a big fan of this small beach town for many years, and it's my favorite beach on the South Carolina coast.

New Pier and A Black Tie Event

The new pier is complete, and Folly Beach is ready to party. All the fun begins on September 22 for Folly's 50th Gala, a 20's themed black tie gala with dinner, dancing, and a DJ. This will be at the Tide's Hotel, in the hotel's ballroom.

The 10-day event continues with a car show, kid's event day, dancing and shagging on the Folly Beach Pier, carnival rides through October 1st, and a 50th Anniversary street party on Saturday, September 30th, downtown.

Lighthouse and a Wash Out

There are plenty of VRBOs on Folly and now a few hotels, but only one oceanfront, The Tides. If you've never been, the downtown area has plenty of restaurants, bars, souvenir shops, and more. The Morris Island Lighthouse is a must-see, and the beach in that area is beautiful—a great place for pictures. It's on the eastern side of Folly Beach at the Wash Out, which got its name after Hurricane Hugo "washed out" several homes and much of the land during the 1989 storm. The alterations created some of the best surf conditions on the East Coast.

Celebrate!

So, make your plans to join in on the celebration! I may see you at the oceanfront tiki hut at the Tides Hotel.

Happy 50th, Folly Beach!
