My dogs get a walk every day. And most of the time, it's first thing in the morning. During the week, that means our morning walks are SUPER early. Usually, there's not a lot going on at 2:45 a.m. But that doesn't mean that nothing ever happens. You might've heard me talk about cops coming through the neighborhood looking for someone. Also, it's not uncommon for us to see some sort of animals on the walk. I've mostly seen neighborhood cats, rabbits, other dogs, and even deer. But I don't think anything will beat the bizarre sighting I had this morning.
Fears During Morning Walks
Now, I will say, I am terrified of stumbling upon a snake on our walks. Walking in the dark, I do carry a flashlight. And I definitely try to shine it on our path. I also have to really watch when we get to certain areas in the neighborhood where the grass is a little higher. Because it rained last night, the ground was wet. For some reason, the rain really brings out the frogs in the neighborhood too. It's not unusual to see them in the road... and some didn't make it.
In fact, this morning, Waylon saw a frog and kind of jumped back and walked way around it. I don't blame him. I don't really like frogs either.
I'm also worried about coming up on someone while we're out there. It wouldn't be the first time. Let's be honest, there aren't usually a lot of people out that early, so if you do see someone, it does feel a little freaky.
Still, nothing could've prepared me for the craziest thing this morning. We walked down to our turn-around point and started back the other way. David was with us this morning, so he and I were talking. The next thing I know, Waylon went to sniff at something and jumped back. I honestly thought the item in the road was a leaf. Until I shined my flashlight on it.

How does this happen?!
It's a LOBSTER! I thought I was losing my mind. David said, "What is it?" And I felt dumb saying, "A lobster." Because where does a lobster come from? That is NOT something you'd expect to find in a neighborhood this far from the beach.
How Does This Happen?
Now there is a creek and a pond nearby. But have I missed something? I don't think lobsters typically live near fresh water, right? I can't wrap my head around how this thing wound up in a residential area.
Needless to say, I think the little guy was ticked off. He did turn towards us pretty quickly. I did my best to keep the dogs away while I took the picture. And I will say, he wasn't huge... but the picture doesn't really do it justice. He was maybe 6-8 inches? I don't know.
Just when I thought snakes were the worst critter I have to worry about... now I have to worry about LOBSTERS?!
Oh and let's not forget about BEARS! I live in Edgefield County!
