How Long Do People Stay Married In Georgia
How long do people stay married in Georgia? How do we compare to other states? Are we in the top ten or the bottom ten? Thankfully a new study has been done, and it will answer all of these questions. Unfortunately marriages don’t last as long these days as they used to, but are we still doing ok here in The Peach State? Lets dive into the results of the study.
According to an article from CNBC, the divorce rate in America is actually going down. I’ll be honest, that surprises me a little bit. Back in 2000, for every ten couples that got married there were about five marriages that ended in divorce that year. By comparison, in 2021 there were only four divorces for every ten marriages. Thats about a 20% drop in twenty years.
This article says that based on the data, that states on the west coast are more likely to end in divorce than states in the mid west or on the east coast. So where are marriages the shortest? Well according to this article its Washington DC. The average marriage there only lasts 10.5 years. So what about Georgia? Where do we rank?
According to this CNBC article, we’re in the top ten of states with the shortest marriages. Georgia ranked at number ten. The average marriage in Georgia lasts 18.8 years, which honestly is still a pretty good while. However, by comparison, the state with the longest average marriage is West Virginia. Marriages there last an average of 22.6 years.
