I love road trips, but this one was especially fun. I drove to Cullman, Alabama, for the Rock The South festival. The headliner for Friday night was Zach Bryan. I’ve heard a lot about this guy,and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Zach Bryan At Rock The South In Cullman, Alabama
On the Farm
The first thing I noticed was the crowd. It was about 30-40,000 people, and they were all in full concert mode. This place even had a Ferris wheel in the middle of the enormous piece of farmland that was turned into a huge concert venue for the long weekend.
Travis, Too
The opening act was Travis Tritt, who still sounds great, and he got the crowd going. Then, at about 9:30, Zach Bryan came on stage. No big introduction, just he and his band walking out and start playing. Two giant 75-foot screens on both sides of the stage helped the crowd get closer to who they came to see because it’s hard to be close when you have that many people.
Thank You
His band was incredible, and the first thing that struck me was Zach telling his fans repeatedly throughout the night how much he appreciated them, and he must have said thank you 50 times.
This guy is genuine. Simple music and great lyrics. He has found the magic.
I Trust You!
And the fans. I should use all caps when I say the FANS because they are crazy loud and smiling and dancing and singing the words to every one of his songs. My favorite thing Zach does on stage is, whatever city he’s in, he’ll call out, “I trust you, Cullman!” that is the cue for the fans to start singing the song as he backs away from the microphone. Hearing thousands of people sing is incredible; you can tell he loves it.
I’m a fan. Thanks for a great time, Zach. I’ll be back.
