South Carolina’s State Park Is One Of The Best In The South
I drove to the South Carolina-North Carolina line to Ceasers Head State Park on Saturday morning to check out this park. First, the view is incredible, and is a short walk from the parking area. I got to the park early, around 9 AM, and there were a few people there. Later, the last in the souvenir shop told me the parking lot is usually complete by 10 AM, so I’m glad I got there early. Take A Hike
I didn’t hike, but I saw some incredible scenery, even on the drive up the mountain. The lady also told me I would probably see a black bear or two if I hit the trail, so I figured I’d wait until I could find a hiking partner or two to do this with me. She did say the black bears in that area are more likely to run from you……which is a good thing!
A Suspension Bridge
According to the South Carolina State Park website, the four-mile, round-trip Raven Cliff Falls trail is one of the most popular trails at Caesars Head. This hiking trail leads to the scenic overlook, where you can view the 420-foot Raven Cliff Falls. There is also a 6.6-mile round-trip hike to a suspension bridge that crosses the creek above Raven Cliff Falls. The bridge offers a unique view of the falls as they plunge deep into the mountain cove below. South Carolina’s State Park Is One Of The Best In The South.
If You Go
The park is about 30 miles from Greenville off Route 276 W. The parking lot and Visitor Center are at the top of the mountain. The park has an interpretive center, gift shop, bookstore, and several picnic areas. The trail through Devil’s Kitchen is an easy hike just a short distance from the Visitor Center to the Caesars Head overlook; however, walking through the crack in the rocks requires descending a relatively steep set of stairs. Proceed with caution.
