Aldi Acquires Additional Stores In Georgia
While terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed, discount retailer Aldi is acquiring around 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets. Some of the additional stores are located in Georgia, along with Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
According to Food Business News, Aldi is purchasing the stores from Southeastern Grocers Inc. in Jacksonville, Florida.
The chief executive officer for Aldi, Jason Hart, points out the long histories and customer loyalty for Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets. He feels the timing has been right for Aldi to grow and help customers in the Southeast to save on groceries.
The acquisition will add 25 Aldi stores in Georgia. But Florida will see the most growth, with 299 additional stores being added. After the acquisition, Aldi will have around 2,400 stores in the U.S.
Not all stores will be converted to the Aldi format. The company will evaluate which locations will benefit from the Aldi format most. As for the other stores, they intend to continue operation under the Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets brands.
