Is Augusta one of America's best cities for golfers? I would like to think so. A lot of people, including myself, would consider Augusta one of the golf capitals of the world. Thousands of people travel here every April for one of the biggest, if not the biggest golf tournament of the year, The Masters. However, we might not be as good as I like to think we are.
The folks at Lawnstarter recently ranked the top 200 best cities for golfers in the country. They ranked each city based on six key categories. Those categories included public course access, premium course access, training access, course quality, and community. So was Augusta in the top five? Nope! What about the top ten? I'm afraid not. Unfortunately, we didn't even make the top fifty!
Augusta ranked 52 on Lawnstarter's list. I'm going to be 100% honest, this shocks me! We've got some amazing golf courses around here, most of them are open to the public. Our ranking here is really surprising to me, I just don't agree with it. Maybe I'm too close to the situation, but I really thought Augusta should be ranked higher. So what cities made the top ten? Here they are.
Top Ten Best Cities For Golfers In America
- Scottsdale, Arizona
- Orlando, Florida
- Las Vegas, Nevada
- Cincinnati, Ohio
- Savannah, Georgia
- Tucson, Arizona
- Los Angeles, California
- Birmingham, Alabama
- San Francisco, California
- San Antonio, Texas
Savannah ranked higher than Augusta? Did they just mix up our numbers? Cincinnati ranked higher than Augusta? I'm just not buying it. I'm sure they have some great courses in those cities, but are they as nice as some of ours? If you want to see the full article and list of best cities for golfers from Lawnstarter, just click here.

I love playing golf here in Augusta, and these are some of my favorite places that I've played.
Dub’s Favorite Augusta Golf Courses To Play
What are my favorite Augusta golf courses to play? I get asked that a bunch, so I decided to make a list of them. I don't think I have to tell you that we live in a golf town. There are so many great options for golf here. I've been fortunate enough to play a lot of courses around here over the years and these would be my favorites.
I started really playing golf more seriously in 2018. There's not a course around here that I'll ever say no to playing. If I get to be outside and enjoy some golf and some cold beverages, then I'm all in. Of course not all of these courses are in Augusta, but they're close so I'm lumping them all together.
This list is based on the conditions of the course. Also on the atmosphere and just the overall experience. If you want more info on some of these courses, and to read some more reviews on them, just click here

Most of these are public courses that anyone can play. A couple of them are private and you have to know someone to get on. These are my favorite Augusta golf courses to play, and they're in no particular order.
Bartram Trail
I've been playing out at Bartram a lot lately, and I love it. The course is always fun and really challenging. Of course the restaurant Tavern On The Trail is great too! I love the atmosphere over at Bartram, and it helps that its less than 10 minutes from my house.
Forest Hills
This was the first course I played when I first started playing seriously back in 2018. There's a lot of history at Forest Hills. I love playing that course. When we were in the heart of Covid, and golf was about all there was to do, we would play out there at least once a week. Forest Hills is were I got my first birdie.
Mount Vintage
Its not in Augusta, its in North Augusta, which is close enough so I'm including it. Mount Vintage is another course I've played a bunch and its another one thats really challenging, but really fun. They have 3 nine hole courses, so theres some good variety out there.
The River Golf Club
This one is also in North Augusta, but I love playing it, so I'm including it. I played The River a bunch my first year playing golf and its a beautiful course. The scenery is great and so is the atmosphere.
Belle Meade
This one is right up I-20 in Thomson. I've played it a bunch over the years as well. My favorite hole on Belle Meade is number 11, the downhill Par 3. As long as no one was behind us, we'd always hit multiple shots on that hole trying to get a hole in one.
Champions Retreat
This one isn't open to the public, so you've got to know someone in order to get on. But if you ever get the chance to play it, don't pass it up. The atmosphere, the food, the course, its all awesome!
Augusta National Golf Club
I can't say much about it, but it happened, and its one of the best days of my life!
