“One unique attraction you can’t find everywhere is canal cities in the US with waterways and waterbodies – towns connected by a network of waterways for transportation purposes.,” Traveling Rauf says.
These artificial waterways typically are spacious and deep enough to allow boats. They are often used for shipping. Commercial uses aside, in the right atmosphere, a canal is a relaxing excursion and a beautiful way to take in the unique charm of a city.

Today, this canal “is the only intact industrial canal in the American South in continuous use,” Augusta Canal states. You can hop on a Petersburg boat tour and enjoy an open-air informative ride to learn about 19th-century history. In addition, you’ll catch some wildlife, otters, and sometimes, an alligator.
