Lainey Wilson Is ‘Madly In Love’ With Her ‘Cheerleader’
Lainey Wilson did an interview this week with The New York Post and talked about several topics. Among them was her boyfriend, former NFL player Devlin “Duck” Hodges, who she first appeared with on the ACM red carpet earlier this year.
Lainey told the publication that she “decided to keep something for me” when asked why she waited so long to go public with the romance. She said, “I laugh and say I wanted to see if he was in it for the right reasons — and turns out he was. He’s a good boy. He’s the kind of dude that high-fives me on the way out the door.” She continued to say that Devlin is a “good person” and that he is her “cheerleader.”
She added that he knows how vital country music is to her, and he knows how important her job is as well. Wilson said, “It’s really cool” to be able to share a life with somebody who also was super passionate about something (football) since he was a kid.

Lainey said that her relationship with Hodges has helped her to write love songs because she is “madly in love and crazy about him.” She added that the love songs she writes about her man are not all “butterflies and rainbows” and that, like the relationship, there is a “little grit and edge to it.”
Wilson also discussed how excited she was to be a top CMA nominee with nine nominations at next month’s (11/8) CMA Awards in Nashville. She recalled that she used to wait outside to get a free wristband, “hoping that I could be in the pit” at CMA Awards shows in the past. Wilson said she would save her money to buy a ticket to the show in the “nosebleeds.” She said she would buy an outfit “just to get all dressed up and feel like I was a part of it.”
After last year’s CMA wins for Female Vocalist and New Artist, Lainey said that this year’s nominations make her feel “very embraced” by the country music community. She concluded that the inclusion into the country music realm “kind of lights another fire under you.”
