Holy Ken-noli…we loved that movie! The Barbie movie was just released with a record-breaking number in sales. Racking in $155 million, it was easily the biggest debut of the year. And, in collaboration with Oppenheimer’s $80 million earnings, the weekend’s box office total was the fourth biggest in history, variety.com reported. To put that in perspective, Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War, and Spider-Man: No Way Home are the top three on that list.
So, yeah. Our girl crushed it at the box office. Not that any fan is surprised. The world has gone full-on pink power crazy ever since the first teaser trailer dropped in December. Because, remember, Barbie is everything.
Now Barbie is…even MORE everything.
Is that even possible? Yes, yes it is. The combination of Margot Robbie’s perfect portrayal of Barbie and the talented team behind the scenes just elevated Barbie to the next level. She was always every little girl’s favorite doll. But now that doll has a voice, literally.
Without spoiling the film for those who haven’t seen it, the whole concept of Barbie will never be the same after this movie. Yes, this film gave us exactly what we wanted and expected from our youth. Barbie is a happy, sweet, fun-loving girl. And Ken is just as charming and dreamy as we’ve all made him in those hours of our imaginative childhood playtime.
The set is pink and plastic and shiny and completely submerses the audience in Barbieland. The attention to detail satisfies even the pickiest of Barbie collectors. There are nods to past Barbie cars and outfits that are so accurate, you forget you’re not in Barbie’s world. Or in your bedroom as a playful child.
But the movie brought us even more. Another dimension to our beloved doll. She’s deep. She’s thoughtful. And she’s empowered. And the best part, Barbie is using all that gravitas to make her world a better place.
Yeah. It’s safe to say that Barbie is our new hero. And for all the right reasons. So if you’re as pumped with pink power as we are after watching the movie, here are a few things you just have to own.
