Fort Eisenhower, previously known as Fort Gordon, just underwent a major name change, and now the Augusta military base is headed for another big addition.

Fort Eisenhower broke ground for a new housing project on Tuesday morning, October 31. The name of the housing division is Pine Tree Terrace. There have been plans and talks of a new neighborhood for a few years and now it's becoming a reality with progress being shown. Along with breaking ground, they’ve added water and sewage lines.

This will be the base's first new housing community in more than a decade. That means 70% of homes on Fort Eisenhower were built in the 1970’s or before.

It is a multi-million dollar project that is projected to be very modern.

Pine Tree Terrace:

The new housing project will consist of 76 fresh townhome houses. The new buildings will be three- and four-bedroom townhomes, including four that will be accessible to those with disabilities.

The homes will be built by Fort Eisenhower’s housing partner Balfour Beatty, who is the contracting company responsible for maintaining on-post housing.

Reports have stated that the housing is badly maintained and even dangerous, and Balfour Beatty allegedly hasn't been seen in the best light for the past few years throughout the community.

In December 2021, Balfour pleaded guilty to fraud against the United States from 2013 to 2019 following a Department of Justice investigation. So with this new project not only are they building these homes, but another goal is rebuilding trust again with the military leadership and community.

Again, this is big news for Fort Eisenhower as housing has been a big conversation in the past few years. Service members should be able to move in by spring of 2025.

Fort Eisenhower leadership understands that one neighborhood will not be enough, so it seems there will be more groundbreaking for new housing to come in the next few years.
