It seems traffic is at an all-time high in the Augusta area. More traffic means more wrecks. As a matter of fact, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation, Augusta averages a little over 18,000 auto accidents a year. That means we have some Dangerous Roads In Augusta. Let's start with the obvious. Here are The Five Most Dangerous Roads In Augusta.

I-20

Especially during the double bridge construction for the past couple of years. But even without that, it's still a dangerous road just based on the number of vehicles traveling on it daily—Thousands on I-20 alone each year. A few tractor-trailers have gone into the Augusta Canal over the years, and I'm sure when the construction is complete there, it will be a lot safer. This project should be finished in 2024.

Gordon Highway

Traffic is always busy on Gordon Highway, but you also hear about people crossing Gordon Highway and getting hit by vehicles. Traffic is heavy because of Fort Eisenhower, too.

Bobby Jones Expressway

I live in North Augusta, but when traffic is backed up on I-20, I usually take the Bobby Jones Expressway to North Augusta. This road is more like a race track, especially til you get past the airport exit. It gets a little better once you cross into South Carolina. But definitely a dangerous road.

Washington Road

Everyone in the Augusta area is on Washington Road at some point during the week, making it a busy and sometimes dangerous road. Pedestrian traffic is active here, too. Anytime you have an area that has so many businesses on it, it increases accidents because of all of the stop-and-go traffic and people turning into and coming out of businesses. Masters week takes it up a notch or two, also.

Wrightsboro Road

Another busy road and the mall traffic add to that. The stretch between Bobby Jones Expressway and Daniel Village is an active area, and with that comes accidents.

Take A Backroad And Relax

Tee has worked with KICKS 99 for over 24 years as Operations Manager and Program Director and is on-air each afternoon 3p-7p. When he’s not working, you’ll find him traveling the back roads, taking pictures, and searching for the next dive diner. Favorite place to visit? That’s easy. Folly Beach, SC. He’s usually there at least a few times a year. He lives in North Augusta and on Saturdays in the fall, you’ll find him cooking out and watching his Clemson Tigers. Tee likes to write about travel, Augusta local dive bars and diners and destinations in the Carolinas, as well as new business.
