Cody Johnson's new album came out this past Friday, and it is awesome! I'm featuring one of the songs from that new album on Dub's playlist this week. Just like his last two albums, Cody brought it on this one as well. In my opinion, this might be his best one so far. It's called "Leather", and you have to check it out, if you haven't already.

No one does a story song quite like Cody Johnson. The story song is one of the things that makes county music so unique. We don't get those kind of songs as much as we used to. However, Cody always puts a few on his albums, and when he does, they're always so good! On his last album "Human" there's a song called "I Always Wanted To". If you haven't heard that one yet, go find it, after you listen to the one I'm featuring this week.

"Leather" features several cowboy songs that Cody is famous for, and of course his latest hit single "The Painter". But the song that I've chosen this week stopped me right in my tracks. We were talking about it here in the office the other day, everyone has had the same reaction when they've heard it. This song usually brings some tears with it. So you may want to have some tissues handy when you listen to this week's song.

Cody Johnson: A Texan On The Rise In Nashville And Beyond

Cody Johnson has been making waves in country music in the last few years and has been taking home some awards including winning the Single of the Year award at the 2022 CMA Awards for his 'Till You Can't." He also won a 2023 CMT Music Award for Performance of the Year.

Cody recently announced during a CMT nominations special earlier this month, that he will be releasing a 24-track double album, titled Cody Johnson: Leather. And the new project will feature a duet with Carrie Underwood. He revealed this when he was asked what it was like to compete with Underwood for a CMT Award. "I actually just recorded a duet with her yesterday for my new album coming out. And getting to know her — man, she's such a pro and everybody that she surrounds herself with are all very professional, as well. I don't mean this to sound bad, but it's kind of hard to compete with that."

The new album will be Johnson's second consecutive double album, as his October 2021 project, Human, was also a two-disc project with 18 tracks.

As Cody continues his climb in country music, heading for superstar status, we take a look at the last couple of years of this Texas country star's life in Nashville and beyond.
