Online Sports Betting In Georgia Could Be Legal Soon
Sports betting in Georgia, currently it’s not legal, but could that change soon? Could you be able to place a bet on the next Georgia football game? Maybe you want to bet on how many home runs Ronald Acuna Jr. is going to hit in a game at Truist Park. Or maybe you want to bet on who you think will put on the green jacket at The Masters next year? It’s all in Georgia lawmakers hands.
When Could This Happen?
According to WSB TV, the issue will be brought up again during the next General Assembly session. The Georgia House Economic Development and Tourism Committee plans to talk about legalizing sports betting in Georgia. House Chair, State Rep. Ron Stephens out of Savannah said in the article that they’ve had requests from all of Georgia’s major league teams to consider legalizing sports betting in Georgia.
As Rep. Stephens said, more and more states are doing it. Is is it time for Georgia to do the same? I certainly think so. WSB TV said in their article, the last time gambling was approved in Georgia was in 1992 when the Georgia Lottery was approved. That was over thirty years ago. It’s working in other states. So why not Georgia?
Economic Impact In Georgia
If the issue were to pass, the Georgia Lottery would handle things. It would be for people 21 and over who are physically in the state of Georgia. Rep. Stephens also says approving this could mean over $100 million coming into the state for HOPE scholarship and pre-k programs. They will basically look at it as another lottery game. I think its time that Georgia legalizes betting on sports. Hopefully this will pass.
