Kenny Chesney’s Part In His Childhood Christmas Play
Kenny Chesney released a Christmas album in 2003 called All I Want For Christmas Is A Real Good Tan. The album featured three covers, including “Christmas in Dixie,” originally recorded by Alabama. Kenny’s song version features Alabama’s lead singer, Randy Owen, as a duet partner.
Chesney also covered “Thank God for Kids,” a song recorded by Country Music Hall Of Famers The Oak Ridge Boys. He also covered Willie Nelson’s holiday classic, “Pretty Paper.”
Kenny’s rendition of “Silent Night” on the record features his mother and her twin sister, credited as the Grigsby Twins.
Not long ago, Chesney recalled his contribution to a school Christmas play as a young kid growing up in East Tennessee. He told us, “One time I held the star, you know, and did it behind other kids in the play. I didn’t show my face. I was holding the star going through the night. That’s all I did. I remember doing that one year.”
He added, “All my other buddies (in the play) were Joseph and Mary and all that stuff. I never did get out on stage that much. I never really did sing in the Christmas play, and I was pretty scared to get up there then!”

Kenny recently released a new song called “Take Her Home.” He says it’s a song that all of us can relate to.

He added, “It’s amazing how simple figuring life out can be. I look around and see people in every state of this song every day. It’s part of the miracle of being alive. Even when it’s not happening to you, it’s happening to someone you love – whether your friend, a brother or sister, co-worker – and that feeling comes right back. I can’t wait to hear people singing this one back to us because it’s going to be one of those moments. I just know.”
