This public piece of artwork represents the Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year. It shows a dragon feasting on a rabbit. While that sounds very gruesome, the painting is very lively and colorful. It also represents a big message for the incoming year of 2024.

There are 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac that represent each year. 2023 represents the year of the rabbit. For 2024, Lunar New Year represents the year of the Dragon. For the sign of the Dragon, this represents power, success, honor, and luck.

The painting was done by Jason Craig. Jason Craig is an Augusta-based illustrator and Senior Graphic Designer. Back in 2019, he became a full-time independent graphic designer.  He has work that is not just on buildings around the city, but also his work has been featured in print such as magazines, textbooks, and design annuals. He has also done work for Disney, DC Comics, Nike, and Cumulus Radio.

The award winning artist has received multiple American Advertising Awards and AIGA InShow awards and more.

Lunar New Year is a celebration of the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year on the Lunar calendar. While it is one of the most important holidays in China, it is also widely celebrated by those in South Korea, Vietnam, and other Asian countries. Lunar New Year begins on the second new moon after the Winter Solstice. This means that the first day of the Lunar New Year can occur anytime between January 21 and February 20.

This year it will begin on Saturday, February 10, 2024.
